I often hear clients, friends and business associates say they feel stuck in their life or face a career rut. It happens to all of us, and I’ve been there more than I’d like to admit.
My learning has been to use this “crisis” as an opportunity to re-evaluate and re-connect to a larger vision.
Now, I didn’t always have a vision. I was one of those people who lived on autopilot. I was trying to follow someone else’s path to success. I learned the hard way that this wasn’t going to work for me.
My big a-ha moment was when I decided to take back my own power and you can do it too!
Be Intentional about every action you take. In other words, when it comes to your decision at work, in life and in all the choices that matter, become purposeful and consistent.
Here are some questions you can ask yourself:
Why am I in this job? Is this what I want to do with my career?
Where do I want to be a year from now? 5 years from now?
Is this career something that is genuinely meaningful and satisfying to me or am I only doing it because I’ve been told to play it safe?
Do I want to contribute to the community? If so, how?
How do I want my work to connect with others?
You can do this exercise every few months or every year if you like to help you become more purposeful.
Only when you get clear about what you most want and why it matters at the deepest level can you let go of what you don’t want and focus your energy and time on the things that matter.
Don’t forget to leave me your comments and thoughts and let me know if you had any aha moments!
